A Week in Review - January 14 - 18

I cannot believe that January is already half over!  Where has the time gone? We have been busy bees in room 116 this week.  We continued to work on Nursery Rhymes and Fairy Tales this week.  We make candlesticks for Jack be Nimble.  Students love reciting the poem and jumping over their candlestick!

We also worked on Jack and Jill. Students created moveable puppets for the nursery rhyme.

We learned all about the letter Oo this week. Lots of students are working hard on trying to stretch out their sounds for their books now!

Oval, Olive, Otter, Owl
We also tasted olives and graphed our results.

Our Friday Mystery Reader visited us in the AM.  PM students were on the field trip during our Mystery Reader time.

Evi's Mom was our Mystery Reader (AM).
Evi's sister was ALSO our Mystery Reader (AM).
Finally, the Zipper Club. Can I just say how impressed I am at the number of members already!?! I need to get a bigger zipper! Thank you for working hard with your child on becoming independent. The kiddos are *so* very proud of themselves.

Enjoy your extra stay home day tomorrow!

A Week in Review - January 7 - 11

It was our fist full week back and we were busy bees!  In literacy we worked on The Three Little Pigs fairy tale.  After we read the book, we discussed what we would want to build our houses out of and why.

If I built a house, I would build a house out of bricks so people don't break into it (Haley PM).
If I built a house, I would build a house out of sticks so the wolf would blow it down (April PM).
If I built a house, I would build a house out of straw because I think the wolf is funny (Kennedy AM).
If I built a house, I would build a house out of bricks so the wolf couldn't blow my house away (Nyelah PM).
After we finished the Three Pigs' side of the story, we read the Big Bad Wolf's side of the story.  Then, each student picked one item that they wanted the Big Bad Wolf (hairdryer) to try and blow down.  Students made a prediction of whether or not they thought the wolf would blow their item.  Finally, we tested our predictions!

In math, we have been working on patterning.  We practiced patterning with pasta.

We worked on learning all about the letter C.  Some students began writing their own word for their C illustration!

Students began applying for the Zipper Club.  Students must demonstrate that they can zip their coats on their own five consecutive times.  Once they do, they will become a member of the Zipper Club and get a lot of great things!

Students will get their name on the tooth of zipper when they become a member of the Zipper Club.
Students will get a certificate, a zipper pull, and their name on a tooth of our zipper when they become a member of the Zipper Club.
We had our Mystery Readers and Fresh Fruit Fridays as well.

Lilah's mom was our AM Mystery Reader.
Nyelah's mom was our PM Mystery Reader.
Please remember to send your child with the warm winter clothes, daily!

Love,
Miss Lucas

A Week in Review - January 2 - 4

It was nice to ease back into everything with three days.  Those three days were jam packed!  We learned the nursery rhyme The Itsy Bitsy Spider.  After we sang the nursery rhyme, we talked a lot about the spider's persistence.  We discussed times that we had to be persistent.

Just like the spider went back up the spout, I kept practicing how to ride my bike (April PM).
Just like the spider went back up the spout, I worked super hard on my new Super Mario game (Noah AM).
Just like the spider went back up the spout, I kept practicing my dad's trumpet (Maria AM).
Just like the spider went back up the spout, I learned to button my coat (Nyleah PM).
We also had our Mystery Readers and celebrated Yiwen's 5-year-old birthday (AM)!

Hazel's Mom was our AM Mystery Reader.
Sullivan's Mom was our PM mystery Reader.
Happy Birthday, Yiwen!
Please continue to work with your child on zipping their coat.  I'm on the lookout for new members of the Zipper Club!

Love,
Miss Lucas

A Week in Review - December 17 - 21

It was another fun filled week in our room!  We continued to work on nursery rhymes and fairy tales.  This week we focused on Hickory Dickory Dock.  We talked a lot about where we thought the mouse ran next.  The kiddos came up with some very creative answers!

Next, the mouse ran to the kitchen to get cheese (Evi AM).
Next, the mouse ran to a restaurant (La'Mya AM).
Next, the mouse ran to my house (Miles PM).  I'm so glad it didn't run to my house!
Next, the mouse ran to the library (Sullivan PM).
We read two versions of The Little Red Hen.  First, we read the version where she makes bread and no one will help her.  Naturally, we had to taste and graph various types of bread.

The next version is where the Little Red Hen makes a pizza *yum!*  Guess we had to do after we read the book?!?  Yes, we had to make pizzas!  Before we made real pizzas, we made our favorite paper pizza.  Then, we graphed our favorite type of pizza and discussed the results.
