A Week in Review - February 18 - 22

This week we switched gears from Valentine's Day to dental health.  We have been reading and talking a lot about healthy choices for our teeth.  Students sorted pictures that were healthy and unhealthy for our teeth.

In addition, students described and wrote about their teeth!

"My teeth are shiny and clean" (Sasha AM).
"My teeth are shiny and clean" (Kennedy AM).
"My teeth are white, pointy and shiny" (Evi AM).
"My teeth are good, white and medium" (Miles PM).
"My teeth are shiny, straight, and white" (Nyleah PM).
"My teeth are white and medium" (Sullivan PM).
I will turn their writing into a class book!

We also had our Mystery Readers on this week!

Yiwen's Mom was our AM Mystery Reader!
Dr. Wesfahl was our PM Mystery Reader (due to an illness)!
Don't forget to turn in your child's toothbrush chart!

Love,
Miss Lucas

A Week in Review - February 11 - 15

Can I just tell you all that I *love* love? We certainly had a love filled week in room 116! We began the week by reading "My Mama Monster Loves Me So." We talked about all of the things that we loved and created our own love monsters. They are *too* cute!

"I am a love monster! I love my baby sister because she is cute and has cute hands" (Willy AM).
"I am a love monster! I love my sister because I sleep with her" (Monica PM).
"I am a love monster! I love my dog because I like playing with her" (Lilah AM).
"I am a love monster! I love my brother because sometimes he lets me come into his room and read" (Sasha AM).
We also discussed estimating. Students estimated how many candy hearts they could hold in their hand.  Then, they counted how many hearts they could actually hold.

PM's estimation chart.
AM's estimation chart.
Students drew four things that they loved. Then, I turned their page into a class book!  They came up with some really creative things that they love. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures of their actual pictures.

To end our week of love, we had a Valentine's Celebration!  It was *so* sweet to see everyone opening up their Valentines and running to their friends and saying thank you!

I hope that you all enjoy your extra stay home day tomorrow!

A Week in Review - February 4 - 8

Sorry for the short post.  Some weeks I feel like we are packed with a million things and other weeks I feel are a little more relaxed.  This past week was one of those weeks!

In math, we worked on sorting and graphing conversation hearts.

We focused on the letter Ss last week. I continue to be impressed with how hard the students are working on stretching out their words!

We also had our Mystery Readers! For some reason, I forgot to schedule an AM Mystery reader - sorry!

Sullivan's Mom was our PM Mystery Reader!
I promise there will be more pictures next week :)

Love,
Miss Lucas

A Week in Review - January 21 - February 1

Congratulations to all of my friends in room 116! *Everyone* is officially a member of the Zipper Club!

The past two weeks we have been working on finishing up our nursery rhyme and fairy tale unit.  We read "Jack and the Beanstalk" and then did a rhyming game with some of the words from the story.

Students rolled the die and had to think of a rhyme for the picture they rolled.  If they made a correct rhyme, students put a dot on the picture.
We also read several versions of the Gingerbread Man and wrote about how we would catch the gingerbread man!

"I would catch the gingerbread man by scooping him up in my scooper on my rocket ship" (Anna AM).
"I would catch the gingerbread man by making a gingerbread house" (Evi AM).
"I would catch the gingerbread man by going on a motorcycle and scooping him up with an ice cream scoop" (Noah AM).
"I would catch the gingerbread man by setting a trap" (Reese PM).
"I would catch the gingerbread man by making a pretty gingerbread house and have the gingerbread girl and boy come inside" (Jo Lin PM).
To wrap up our Nursery Rhyme unit we held the Nursery Rhyme Olympics! Students had to complete five events. After each event, students received a gold medal for the event. The kiddos had a blast!

The first event was the Mother Goose Waddle!

The second event was Jack Be Nimble Candlestick Jump!

The third event was the Humpty Dumpty Puzzle Fixing!

The fourth event was the Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Letter Sort!

The final event was the Hey Diddle Diddle Spoon Race!

Students then strung their medals onto a necklace for each completed event.

We learned all about the letter Gg. Lots of students are working hard on stretching out their sounds!

We read a non-fiction book about groundhog's and predicted whether or not the groundhog would see his shadow.

PM's Prediction.
AM's Prediction.
Students made a groundhog puppet!

We also had our Mystery Readers!

Linda was our AM Mystery Reader (1/25).
April and Allie's Dad was our PM Mystery Reader (1/25).
Noah's Mom was our AM Mystery Reader (2/1).
Brinya's Dad was our PM Mystery Reader (2/1).
Happy Super Bowl Sunday!

Love,
Miss Lucas
