A Week in Review - May 13 - 17

Did you know that cows eat dried grass (hay)? Did you know that male pigs are called boars? These are just a few of the new learnings that have taken place in the classroom. We have been working *really* hard and learning about lots of different farm animals to prepare us for our Green Meadows field trip.

This week we learned about cows and pigs. We read several non-fiction books on cows and pigs and recorded our new learnings as a class. Then, students wrote one new learning they had about each animal.

A Week in Review - May 6 - 10

Happy Mother's Day! I hope that all of the moms had an *amazing* day, you deserve it! Hopefully, you were surpised when you opened your vase from your child. If your child didn't give you yours please remind them it's time to take it out of their hiding spot!

We completed our bears unit early this week.  We read "Bear in Underwear." Any time you talk about underwear with 4-year-olds you receive lots of giggles. This book was no different. After we finished reading the book, students wrote about what they would do if they ever saw a bear in underwear!

"If I saw a bear in underwear I would take a picture" (La'Mya AM).
"If I saw a bear in underwear I would ask him to take them off" (Julianna AM).
"If I saw a bear in underwear I would throw them in the garbage" (Kennedy AM).
"If I saw a bear in underwear I would put more on" (Sullivan PM).
"If I saw a bear in underwear I would scream" (April PM).

This week we also began our farm unit. We kicked off our unit by brainstorming, drawing, and writing about who lives on a farm.

Then, we sang Old MacDonald Had a Farm.  Students then wrote and drew about their own farm!

Old Mac Maria had a pig (AM).
Old Mac Julianna had a pig (AM).
Old Mac Evi had a sheep (AM).
Old Mac Nyleah had a pig (PM).
Old Mac Reese had a chicken (PM).
Old Mac Brinya had a cow (PM).
Our Mystery Readers came on Friday.

Huck's Aunt and Uncle were our AM Mystery Readers.
Monica's Dad was our PM Mystery Reader.

A Week in Review - April 29 - May 3

Sorry for the late post, we have been busy bees in room 116 these past few weeks! Last week we started our bear unit.  We began our unit with a teddy bear sleepover! While the kiddos were away, the bears were *very* busy! After the students were returned to pick up their bears they had a little mystery on their hands.

After following the clues, we finally found our bears in Miss Havig's room! Once we were there we noticed a surprise on her SMART board!

After we got our bears back safely, we had a picnic.

AM picnic with our teddy bears!

PM picnic with our teddy bears!

Students also wrote about what they thought their bears did during the sleepover.

"At the teddy bear sleepover my bear will play at the creative center" (Cheyanne AM).

"At the teddy bear sleepover my bear will mess up the whole school" (Anna AM).
"At the teddy bear sleepover my bear will draw a picture for me" (Willy AM).
"At the teddy bear sleepover my bear will eat all the snacks" (Monica PM).
"At the teddy bear sleepover my bear will listen to music" (Jo Lin PM).
"At the teddy bear sleepover my bear will eat the alphabet" (Katharine PM).

We have been working on some nonfiction with bears as well.  We read nonfiction books about polar bears and brown bears and recorded our new learnings!

AM's new learnings.

PM's new learnings.
After reading "A Pocket for Corduroy" we brainstormed items that could be kept in our pocket.  Then students sewed their own pocket and drew something to keep in the pocket.

"In my pocket I would keep a diamond" (Anna AM).
"In my pocket I would keep a wallet" (Bennett AM).
"In my pocket I would keep a snake" (Derrick PM).
"In my pocket I would keep two flowers" (Katharine PM).
We also had our PM Mystery Reader!

Haley's dad was our PM Mystery Reader!
