Can you believe we have completed our first month of school?  As you could see from Open House, everyone has adjusted to our classroom routines.

This week we finally launched our literacy stations.  These stations include: read to self, work on writing, computers, listen to reading, word work, and work with a teacher.  Students spend approximately 15 minutes at each station and will rotate through two stations each day.

October is Fire Safety month so we read a book about fire safety and created a fire truck out of the shapes we learned about this week (square, circle, triangle, and rectangle).  During our morning/afternoon message students came up and identified the shapes in our fire trucks.

Sullivan identifying a circle (PM).
Finally, we celebrated Sullivan's 5-year-old birthday on Friday (PM).  Happy Birthday, Sullivan!

On Monday we have a fire safety presentation.  Tuesday is picture day!  Don't forget to turn in the pumpkin farm field trip permission slip and money.  Finally, just a reminder that the AM session is from 8:40- 11:35 and the PM session is from 12:45 - 3:40.

A Week in Review - September 17 - 21

We had another fun color week!  Everyone is always so excited to listen to the color story and create their color day project.  I'm sad to see it come to an end.

Purple Day

We began purple day by reading "Harold and the Purple Crayon."  Students then were given their own purple crayon to create a picture of their own!  For snack we had raisins.

"I'm at the beach surfing" (Anna AM).
"It's a pool" (Kennedy AM).
"I like to be outside" (Katharine PM).
"I like to go to the beach" (Miles PM).
Brown Day

The book we read for brown day was "Stuck in the Mud."  Students then drew themselves and painted themselves in the mud.  For snack we ate *dirt.*

White Day

White day was a *very* special day!  Dr. Westfahl came into our room and read our white day book - "Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes."  Students were bopping along and sing Pete's song along with Dr. Westfahl.  Ask them to sing you Pete's song!

Pink Day

Pink day was a class favorite!  We read "Pinkalicious," *frosted* (painted with a mixture of shaving cream and glue.  It makes the paint puffy and soft) pink cupcakes, and ate pink cupcakes!

Hazel, Huck, Willy, and Kennedy *frosting* their cupcakes (AM).
Frosted and sprinkles added.
Yum!
My PM friends did not have a chance to frost their cupcakes yet.  We had an all school assembly on Friday afternoon.  We will frost them on Monday.

Tomorrow is the last color day - gray day!  Then, we will begin talking about shapes.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Love,
Miss Lucas
