In Readers Workshop we began to notice characters. Each student received a post-it and placed in on a character in their story. Then, students shared with the class the character they chose and why.
Rex sharing Emily Elizabeth (AM)
Alissyn sharing Clifford (AM)
Finley sharing Froggy (AM)
Ivy sharing her character (PM)
Isla sharing her character (PM)
Jae sharing Pete the Cat (PM)
Lucy sharing her character (PM)
In Writers Workshop, we have been working on adding more to our stories. Students have began writing stories over multiple pages, just like they do in first grade! I have been so impressed with how much thought and detail they are putting into each story. I told students the next step is publishing!
Rex has been working on telling the story about him going to Discovery World with Jae. First, they drove there, then they played, then they drove home (AM).
Grace has been writing a story about her trip. First she got on an airplane, then she got to the hotel. After, she ate dinner (AM).
Lucy has been working on telling the story of her going to the car show (and the rest of her entire day) (PM).
Bella has been working on telling the story of her going to a hockey game in Chicago. First, she drove there, then she saw the hockey game with her family and cousins (PM).
We wrapped up our dental health unit this week. Students traded in their brushing charts for a new toothbrush, toothpaste, and book!
Our Mystery Readers came Friday!
Sophie's Mom was our AM Mystery Reader
Bella's Mom was our PM Mystery Reader
The letter of the week next week is Pp (hi smiley, big line down, frog jump! Little curve to middle).
The Stormonth read-a-thon begins *tomorrow!* Participation in the read-a-thon is optional. The money raised will be used to buy
materials for Stormonth classrooms. Our
students will raise money by reading books and asking friends and
family to sponsor them for the amount of time they read. Your
student should set a reading goal for the month of March. The read-a-thon
runs from March 1st to March 28th. Donations should be turned in March 31st.
Please look for a manila envelope with all the details!
Mrs. Koscielniak and Mrs. Hogue aka Thing 1 and Thing 2
Don't forget -- the top readers in each grade level will have their
names on the morning announcements. I hope it’s YOU and not thing one or
thing two!
Love,
Mrs. Koscielniak
