It's official - I am falling in love with our K4 friends. On Thursday we were doing an age graph and one of my friends raised their hand and said "Miss Lucas, how old are you; like 154?" I died laughing. I absolutely love this age group!
We had another busy week learning about fire safety and pumpkins. I am asked daily if today is our field trip, so I know everyone is getting excited! On Monday, we had the firefighters come to Stormonth to talk about fire safety.

This week we recorded our background knowledge on pumpkins. We talked about how background knowledge is information that we already know about something. Students knew a lot about pumpkins already!

We also started a pumpkin experiment! We are trying to grow a pumpkin inside of a pumpkin! To begin our experiment we read "Pumpkin Jack," a story about the life cycle of a pumpkin. To begin our experiment, we cut open the pumpkin (I did this in the morning before the kiddos arrived). Then, we filled the inside of the pumpkin with dirt (you leave all the seeds and pulp inside of the pumpkin). Finally, we watered the soil.

After we were done watering our pumpkin, we made observations. I took a photograph of the inside of our pumpkin with the iPad and inserted it into our class observation journal. In the following weeks students will take turns using the iPad to take pictures of the inside of the pumpkin and describing what it looks like.
